History of the PVSMT

The PVSMT has been an active Club of one format or another since the middle 1970s. But it wasn't until a special reorganizational meeting was held in February 1980 that the real foundations of the present Club were formulated. In the early days of 1982, the organization received a permanent home at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds on Roswell's southeast side.

Not only did the Club obtain a permanent location for meetings, but a large area ideal for the development of a Club layout. Building the Club layout was the center of activity and has continued so after the building was readied for layout construction.

In 1986, the Fair Board gave the Club permission to expand this layout area by adding a 13' x 40' addition to the original building on the north side. In 1990, another 10' x 40' addition was added to the south side for meeting and work room space. February 2005 marked the 25th anniversary of the Club and the on-going construction and operation on our third layout at the Fairgrounds facility.

The membership of the Club has always represented many diverse backgrounds and levels of expertise, ranging from novice to long-time expert. Whenever possible, the Club will participate actively in community activities that will help promote our hobby besides giving the Club the exposure needed for maintaining good public relations.
